Portland

Boston
The mayor’s office is trying to raise $15 million from private foundations and companies to establish a WiFi network by the end of 2008.

Philadelphia
The largest U.S. city to go WiFi, it plans to cover an area of 135 square miles with WiFi access by the end of 2007. Both homes and businesses can subscribe to Earthlink’s service, and each district will include at least one free hotspot.

Corpus Christi, Texas
Anyone can access the city’s 75-square-mile WiFi network by purchasing an hour or more of service. 

Tempe, Arizona
It costs $24.95 a month to access its citywide service, which went live in February 2006. Nearby towns Gilbert and Chandler are following suit. 

Portland
The Unwire Portland project aims to offer free wireless to 95 percent of the city’s outdoor areas.
