iPad Survives Terminal Velocity Fall From Space

Taken to the edge of space in a weather balloon, this iPad is seconds from free fall with a G-form case.

From skateboarding to the edge of space, G-Form has come a long way. Originally developed to protect extreme athletes doing insane stunts, the Reactive Protection Technology (RPT) within the G-Form Extreme Edge case is now also used in military and tactical equipment.

Three years ago a group of cyclists working for a chemical polymer plant founded G-Form in a barn in North Scituate, Rhode Island, surrounded by horses, alpacas, cats and dogs. The group was originally developing a gel to make their cycling more comfortable, but it was at Interbike 2010 that they announced the new RPT technology that is here seen being dropped from the edge of space, according to Jeremy Russell, G-Form director of sales.

Last year Portfolio.com readers couldn’t get enough of G-Form's 1,300 foot iPad drop with a skydiver, which was beat out by only one other video: Touch Screens of Cold Fog.
