A Million-Dollar Dudu

With Dudu's translation technology friends communicate across language barriers.

Domain name marketplace Sedo this morning announced it has brokered the sale of Dudu.com for $1 million. For those of us with a fondness for sophomoric wordplay like that embraced by Beavis and Butt-head, it’s going to be a heck of a year.

Dubai-based multilingual social-networking provider DUDU Communications negotiated the purchase from the former, unnamed owner, based in China, over a period of three months.

“With the purchase of Dudu.com, we will be able to match our platform’s brand with the exact domain name we need and migrate from using GoDudu.com to this shorter version,” said Alibek Issaev, Chairman of DUDU. “This purchase means we don’t lose important traffic, and at the same time we ensure that visitors from around the globe will remember our brand’s name.”

In April 2011, DUDU Communications launched Dudu, a multilingual social-networking site employing translation technology that allows friends to communicate across language barriers. The company claims Dudu is the world's first multilingual social network and now has staff in Russia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and several other countries.
