Dell Expected to Give Up on 3Par
Investors may still be betting that the bidding war for 3Par Inc. isn't over but analysts and observers apparently believe Dell Inc. will quit its fight to buy the storage company.
Reuters reported that a survey it did Monday of eight technology investors and analysts say Hewlett-Packard Co. will win the Fremont company, even if the price rises a few dollars more.
Dell has until Wednesday to decide if it will match HP's (NYSE:HPQ) $30-a-share offer for 3Par that is valued at $2 billion. 3Par's shares dropped 95 cents, or 2.9 percent, to close at $31.51 on Monday.
"I think it's hard to compete with HP. They've got the bigger balance sheet," Reuters quoted Peter Bell at venture capital firm Highland Capital Partners as saying.
