Dial 1-800-Tweet

San Francisco Business Times reports: Jajah is beta-testing a way for people to telephone each other via Twitter.

Calls will be short—two minutes—which the company says is “the verbal equivalent of a tweet.”

The Mountain View IP communications business said the service will let two people with Twitter accounts call each other without needing to know or reveal their phone numbers. They’ll “dial” by using the recipient’s Twitter account handle.

Though calls are “free of charge,” the system requires caller and receiver to both have Twitter and Jajah accounts. One person will start the call by sending a request via Twitter. When the recipient responds, a two minute call will start.

Trevor Healy is CEO of Jajah.
