First Bytes: Google, Green Energy, Alcatel-Lucent

Green energy firms have been growing quickly in recent years, and that growth seemed likely to accelerate under the Obama administration. But with the credit crunch and larger economic downturn, the opposite is happening: installation of wind and solar power is plummeting. [New York Times]

Google stands to receive billions of dollars from the stimulus plan to expand information technology, as well as to address perennial internet regulatory issues. [Wall Street Journal]

Alcatel-Lucent, the world's biggest supplier of fixed-line phone networks, had its eighth consecutive loss as it wrote down the value of its assets by $5.1 billion, while denying any rumors an M&A in its future. [Bloomberg]

There was a huge security breach at the online frenetic dating site, SpeedDate.com, enabling users to hack freely into accounts. And this isn't the first time the site has had security issues and gotten into hot water with its members. [Techcrunch]
