The Layoff Song
Kevin Maney writes: I love what the Web is doing for music collaboration. There are lots of sites that make it possible for people all over the world to play or create music together over the Internet. eJamming, for instance, is especially good for playing live together with far-flung musicians. I particularly like Kompoz.com for its simplicity and the general attitude of its community.
Anyway, months ago I posted a song on Kompoz that I'd recorded with The Briefs in San Francisco, asking for backing vocals -- but pretty much forgot to check on it until today. I found that a guy named Karl Knutson of Naperville, Ill., had laid down sweet backing vocals that sound like something out of an old Elvis song. So I thought I'd share.
Besides, the song, called "Boss Is Hidin'" is pretty timely. It's about being in an office during layoffs.
