Google Voice Search For iPhone Coming Today?
Sam Gustin writes: Google's much-ballyhooed voice-based search application for Apple's iPhone was a no-show last Friday. But after a mysterious delay, the service is set to launch today, according to TechCrunch.
When word surfaced last week that Google planned to introduce the service as early as last Friday, much of the tech blogosphere began hyperventilating with anticipation.
"For tech bloggers, this was bigger than Obama," Philip Elmer-DeWitt wrote at Apple 2.0.
Imagine being able to dictate a Google search query into your phone -- no typing involved -- and have the result displayed almost instantly. The application also features location-based technology, that "knows" where you are, and tailors search results to your location.
But Friday came and went, and the application, known as "Google Mobile App for iPhone," was nowhere to be found. Bloggers freaked.
The failure of Google's application to appear was taken as a symbol for Apple's shoddy treatment of iPhone developers.
If TechCrunch's report is true, than expect to see the application on Apple's iTunes App Store sometime Monday. If not, well, hell hath no fury like the tech blogosphere kept waiting.
