More Microsoft-Yahoo Relationship Drama

Really, these guys are like a dysfunctional high school couple. Over the weekend, visiting Australia, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was asked about Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang's comments last week about the failed Microsoft-Yahoo deal. Ballmer snorted: "We made an offer, we made another offer, and it was clear that Yahoo didn't want to sell the business to us and we moved on. We are not interested in going back and re-looking at an acquisition. I don't know why they would be either, frankly."

At the Web 2.0 Summit last week, Yang seemed all hurt and baffled by his break-up with Ballmer. "A lot of us have replayed that over and over, including me," Yang said. "The idea of selling to Microsoft was something we'd talked about," and Yang said buying Yahoo is actually "the best thing Microsoft could do." He added: "THEY walked away from a public auction. WE thought we were close."

Ballmer's comment sent Yahoo stock reeling. Maybe that's the plan. At this rate, he'll soon be able to pick up Yahoo at thrift store prices.
