Rumors: Macbook's New Features
Jennifer Lai writes: The blogosphere is buzzing over Apple's upcoming unveiling of the new Macbook, which will be announced at 10 a.m. P.D.T. in Cupertino, California. Images have been leaked. Rumors over the new features have circulated.
Essentially, the Macbook and Macbook Pro are reported to run at much faster speeds, with enhanced graphics, and a longer battery life, as well as a sleeker design says MacNN.
Engadget has heard that there may be two NVIDIA graphics cards, and no update to the 17 Macbook Pro. They've also posted leaked images that give a blurry look at the new product design. Some standout features: a recessed keyboard and a track pad with no mouse buttons. Gizmodo's Jesue Diaz has created a mock-up based off of the blurry images.
John Gruber of Daring Fireball says the trackpad will be made of glass and is the mouse button itself. Also, a magnetic latch will replace a physical clasp. Gruber also says Macbooks will be ready to ship at the end of this week and cost $1299 and $1499. He guesses the 17" Macbook will be phased out, the only update being a larger hard drive and more RAM.
Also, a new 24" LED Cinema Display is rumored to be released at a price tag of $899. Apple hasn't updated this since 2004, when the 23" model cost twice $2000.
