$999 Apple Laptop Unveiled
Ars Technica live-blogged the unveiling of Apple's new laptop today: a slimmed-down version of the MacBook Pro, featuring Nvidia chips, an LED-backlit display, greater track-pad surface -- and a starting price of $999.
Beyond presenting the details of the structure of the laptop (including passing around the sturdy frame to attendees to get a feel), Apple execs also took the opportunity to slam Microsoft on Vista and its ill-fated Jerry Seinfeld ads. Apple C.O.O. Tim Cook followed up comments about Vista ("I think it's fair to say that Vista hasn't lived up to everything Microsoft hoped it would.") with an image of an Apple ad on the screen, saying, "The Mac/PC ad has really struck a chord with so many switchers. They tell a story and people listen."
At the end of the presentation, Steve Jobs' blood pressure level is flashed onto the screen behind him: 110/70.
