Do the Gates-Seinfeld Ads Make Microsoft Cooler?

Kevin Maney writes: What a curious thing, these ads with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld as dry-humor comedy team. They aren't that far off from the self-deprecating videos Gates has made for shows like CES for years. I have to say, I like the two ads that are out. I have no idea what they do for Microsoft, except maybe take some of the edge off the way people see the company.

Microsoft supposedly paid Seinfeld $10 million to do these, and they're part of a $300 million ad campaign to recast Microsoft's image. And even that might not be enough.
