Soccer, the Pentagon, and 9/11/01

Kevin Maney writes: The Web is quite the magical memory machine. A couple of weeks after the 9/11 attacks, I did a radio essay for NPR. For years, I had played pick-up soccer on a field at the Pentagon with guys -- military and civilian -- who worked there. One of our players was killed in the attack. After much debate, our squad gathered together about a week later, had a little memorial service, and then played, as if to prove that the bastards couldn't stop us. The essay takes you back there. Amazing that it was seven years ago.
