Facebook Movie Linked to Tell-All Book
Sam Gustin says: 02138, the magazine about Harvard that scuffled with Facebook last year after publishing founder Mark Zuckerberg's social security number and home address, is reporting new details of the Facebook movie currently under development by Aaron Sorkin.
Sony Pictures and Scott Rudin, who is producing the Sorkin/Facebook project, have optioned the movie rights to a book by Ben Mezrich, a juicy tell-all about the origins of Facebook entitled Face Off, the mag reports.
Mezrich sold Face Off to Doubleday this summer for $1.9 million, according to 02138.
Earlier this year, portions of Mezrich's book proposal filled with what can only be called dubious claims hit the Web. One gem: Zuckerberg has led a flashy junior mogul lifestyle which included eating "koala on the yacht of the C.E.O. of Sun Microsystems."
One other interesting tidbit that has apparently gone unnoticed: Mezrich is Harvard class of 1991. His classmate at the Ivy-League college? None other than Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's current chief operating officer. Bet it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall at their next reunion.
