Best Redesign: CNET, TechCrunch, or Poynter.org?
Sam Gustin says: Three top media sites have gotten a face-lift this week, ahead of the "back-to-school" rush.
CNET.com, now part of CBS Interactive, Techcrunch.com, the popular tech blog, and Poynter.org, the website of the journalism school based in Florida, have all unveiled snazzy new designs. (Techcrunch's Michael Arrington has said he wants to knock CNET off as a top tech website).
All three sites have moved to a new, cleaner interface which emphasizes a featured story over the blog format, as well as more room for sophisticated web advertising.
Personally, I think the CNET.com redesign is the best of the lot. The new Poynter.org is too busy and the new Techcrunch.com is too sparse. I think CNET hits the balance just right. □
