Andreessen, Qik, and Whatever Else
Kevin Maney writes: Starting the end of May, Marc Andreessen took an extensive break from his much-admired blog. About 10 days ago, the guy who co-founded of Netscape and founded Opsware and Ning recommitted to his blogging break.
Apparently, he got busy with other things. In June, he joined Facebook's board. In July, he put some money into Web publishing firm Crowd Fusion. And now he's backing a start-up called Qik, which strikes me as a video version of Twitter. Qik makes it relatively easy to broadcast live video to the Web using the camera on your cell phone.
Andreessen has in the past said his role model is Jim Clark, who is perhaps Silicon Valley's all-time most successful serial entrepreneur. He helped found Silicon Graphics, Netscape, Healtheon. Seems like Marc is quickly catching up to Jim.
On September 4, I'll be interviewing Marc for a Churchill Club event in Palo Alto, Calif. If you're around, come on by.
