Moto: Good News/Bad News

Kevin Maney writes: Motorola's handset division, on the ropes the past year or so, did a little better this past quarter, says a new report from Strategy Analytics. But the numbers are a mixed bag for Moto. Its shipments grew about 5% in the U.S. market, where Motorola has been traditionally strongest. In global markets, though -- where the most growth is -- Moto's performance is off. Its worldwide market share dropped by about four percentage points to 9.5%. The company is in danger of losing its third-place global position to LG Electronics. (Nokia is first; Samsung, second.). □
