iPhone + VOIP = More Better Apps
Blaise Zerega says long live the party line. Consumers who have downloaded some 60 million iPhone programs from Apple's App Store may soon be in for a treat. GIPS announced today that it's voice-over-internet-protocol technology is now available for developers to integrate into iPhone applications.
Most of the coverage of VOIP in the mobile space tends to focus on placing voice calls over a smartphone's WiFi and thus avoiding hefty charges from carriers -- for good reason.
But the opportunities presented to iPhone developers with VOIP technology from GIPS and others, means more mobile apps offering multi-person chat and videogames with in-game chat.
While I haven't yet ventured into Kingdom Game, let me know if you think high-quality VOIP would help attract more peasants and make me a Ruler of the known world.
