-- Amazon.com reported earnings that handily beat Wall Street estimates today...until you take into account a one-time $53 million non-cash gain from the sale of European DVD rental assets. Then the results are in line with expectations. [Tech Trader Daily]

-- San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom somehow got muni-hacker Terry Childs to surrender the password to the city's crippled computer network during an "unusual" jail house visit earlier this week. The system is back up now. [NYT]
