Motorola Suing Apple: Phone Envy?

Kevin Maney wonders: If the former Motorola exec who's now at Apple brought over so many valuable trade secrets, why doesn't Moto have a popular smart phone on the market?

Over the weekend, details emerged about Motorola suing a former handset executive, Michael Fenger, who is now Apple's VP for global iPhone sales. As the complaint says: "He was privy to the pricing, margins, customer initiatives, allocation of resources, product development, multiyear-product, business and talent planning, and strategies being used by Motorola." In other words, just about everything. So, basically, considering that Moto has almost completely missed the smart phone craze and has nothing consumers find even remotely as interesting as the iPhone -- why did Apple hire him?

Unless... Moto has an iPhone-like product in development...
