Bill Gates Tribute Song (Sort of...)
Kevin Maney steps to the mic: Several years ago, I was out on a boat on Lake Washington, within site of Bill Gates' house. I got to thinking about the conversation that might happen between two blue-collar fisherman if they were casting from that spot, looking toward the Gates mansion. That thought turned into a song I wrote, titled "Wouldn't Want to Be (Bill Gates)." In April, I recorded it with some musicians in San Francisco -- a band henceforth dubbed Kevin Maney & His Briefs. You can find the recording here.
And the lyrics here:
WOULDN'T WANT TO BE (BILL GATES)
K. Maney
Poor guy
He's probably looking out through one of those 500 pains of glass
Bet he
Wishes he were out here on our boat not catching any bass
You know what's cool?
He could buy any power tool.
Just think
Lives on the water, but on a whim can't join us hanging here
He'd bring
Police and bodyguards, who'd probably just drink up all our beer
Must be a pain
All that wealth and fame
I wouldn't want to be
I wouldn't want to be
No I wouldn't want to be Bill Gates
That's his
Enormous dock, it's got umbrellas and those Adirondack chairs
If he
Ever used it, a hundred boats would anchor here and stare
If it were mine
I'd have a party on it all the time
I wouldn't want to be
I wouldn't want to be
No I wouldn't want to be Bill Gates
I know
Let's knock on his front door and say my home computer's on the blink
Bet he'd
Welcome the company and have his butler fix us fancy drinks
As his houseguests
We shouldn't mention the blue screen of death
I wouldn't want to be
I wouldn't want to be
No I wouldn't want to be Bill Gates
