Everyone Atwitter As Bezos Invests In... Twitter
Blaise Zerega admits to being a reluctant twitterer. Finally some news from Twitter that doesn't involve an outage or Robert Scoble. Amazon's Jeff Bezos, through his personal investment arm, Bezos Expeditions, has invested in Twitter.
The fledgling (yes, pun intended) social communications platform also gave some equity to VC firm Spark Capital and a board seat to Bijan Sabet, a partner there. The amount of funding was not disclosed, and comes on top of $20 million previously raised.
The purpose of the new money -- obvious to Twitterers everywhere, as stated in the press release, er blog post:
"Private funding gives us the runway we need to stay focused on the infrastructure that will help our business take flight. We will continue hiring systems engineers, operators, and architects, as well as consultants, scientists, and other professionals to help us realize our vision."
In other words, to keep the operation up and running as it develops a business model.
