Intel Good, Tech So-So
Intel's better-than-anticipated earnings report is giving all of tech a lift. But I'm not feeling so sanguine. First of all, when you take Intel's report apart, it's not stellar -- and the things going right for Intel seem to be more about good decisions made by Intel than a strongly growing computer market.
Most outlooks for global spending on information technology points to slowing growth. Forrester says growth will be cut in half in 2008 vs. 2007 -- although, keep in mind that tech will still grow at 6%, which isn't bad. It's just not the 12% of 2007. Earlier this year, IDC lowered its growth projection for 2008 to 5%.
Tech stocks are expected to jump today off Intel's news, but that seems premature. Not that such a concern ever stopped Wall Street...
