A Big Thank You for Music Industry Chaos
Years from now, people will look back at this era as one of fantastic experimentation in music industry models. There surely hasn't been anything like this since the earliest days of rock and roll and car radios. Just look at the news in the past 24 hours.
There's MySpace cutting a huge deal with three record labels to turn MySpace Music into a place to see videos and buy songs, ringtones, concert tickets and merchandise.
There's the Rolling Stones creating a YouTube channel.
There's iTunes passing Wal-Mart in music sales.
Not to mention this week's news of Radiohead offering remixes, and 50 Cent creating his own social network.
VC Fred Wilson blogs today about the emergence of streaming music as a huge opportunity for the industry.
