In-flight Broadband Finally Coming: Good or Evil?
It looks like American Airlines and Virgin America are close to launching their in-flight broadband Internet services. Routes can be seen here, from the company providing the service, called Gogo. Cost will probably be $12.95 for cross-country trips and $9.95 for flights shorter than 3 hours.
The founding airlines apparently like it because they say it will help them lure business travelers from competitors. But here's a question: would you choose your airline BECAUSE it has Internet access...or might you choose to fly on an airline because it DOESN'T have Internet access?
Let us know. Unfortunately, the choice may not be there a few years down the road. If in-flight Internet proves popular and profitable, it will wind up on every airline.
Oh, and -- should we start a pool for when the first person gets slugged by fellow passengers for talking on Skype the whole flight?
