So There Are People Out There Who Still Actually Use the Yellow Pages...
Every year, this book the approximate size and weight of a watermelon lands on my doorstep. It's the latest Yellow Pages book. I don't think I've opened one in years -- not since it became clear that anything you wanted to find could better be found on the Web. Such a colossal waste of paper and energy.
Today, the Yellow Pages Association -- representing what it says is a $31 billion industry! -- sent me data from a new survey. It shows that print Yellow Pages usage "remained stable" in 2007 vs. 2006 -- citing 13.4 billion "references" during the year, whatever that means. It also said that 87% of the U.S. population used the print Yellow Pages in 2007.
Who knew? Some habits apparently die hard.
