YouTube, Pakistan and Hannah Montana

In the past 24 hours, we learned that both Miley Cyrus (a.k.a. Hannah Montana) and the citizens of Pakistan are hooked on YouTube.

On Sunday, YouTube was down for more than an hour around the globe because of a glitch caused by the Pakistani government. The nation tried to shut down YouTube access internally because it carried anti-Islamic content. Apparently enough people in Pakistan are tuning in to make it worrisome.

And then today we get this snippet from last night's Oscars: Cyrus told a reporter she was invited to Elton John's A-list after-party, but said, "I'm just going to be tired and want to go home and go on YouTube." Really? Scanning YouTube instead of going to an event of a lifetime? Wow. (Oddly, I can't find this tidbit on USAT's Web site -- I only saw it in the physical paper.)

By the way, a friend of mine was at the Elton party. At one point she dialed her cell phone and held it so I could hear John playing the first verse of "Levon." Pitiful, I know. But fun in an electronic-age-voyeur kind of way.
