Activision: Driving EA Crazy; Upcoming CEO Interview
Electronic Arts is used to being the big cheese in the exploding video game industry. But in the past year or so, Activision has been driving EA nuts. First it came out with Guitar Hero, which turned into one of the biggest hit games of all time. (Though the game has had a bit of a glitch on Wii.) Then Activision engineered a merger with Vivendi's video game unit, creating a giant that now rivals EA in size and power.
In response, today EA made a $2 billion bid for Take-Two, maker of hit game Grand Theft Auto. Analysts pretty much agree that the bid is an attempt to stay ahead of Activision.
Amid all this, next week (March 6) I'm doing an on-stage interview with Activision CEO Bobby Kotick at UCLA's Anderson School of Business. We'll publish his comments here and in Portfolio magazine. Got any questions you'd like me to ask?
