Lenovo X300 and a Big Year for Laptops

First came Apple's new super-slim MacBook. Now, reviewers are going ga-ga over the new laptop from Lenovo, the X300. We've also seen the hot little $300 Asus EeePC and a recently-introduced rival from Pioneer called the Dreambook.

The Intel folks tell me to expect a surge of low-priced, scaled-down, cute laptops from all sorts of companies -- based on advance orders for chips that will drive them. Intel wouldn't tell me which companies. But this promises to be a great year for laptops that finally -- FINALLY! -- break the boring old mold. They might be slim, colorful, cheap, tiny, or supersized, but at last they will be different. Looking forward to it.
