Domystuff, Getting Some Momentum
I love it when a new Web concept launches and everyone goes: "Yes! This solves a real problem for me!" As opposed to sites like Twitter, which actually creates more problems than it solves because now you have to update the darn thing.
Anyway, earlier this year, 24-year-old Darren Berkovitz launched Domystuff.com. It is kind of like an eBay for chores. You post something you want someone to do. They bid on how much they'll charge you. A reputation system allows you to rate the task doers. Right now, there are postings up there for training a dog, putting together Ikea furniture and, bizarrely, "clip my toenails." (There are no bidders on that one.)
To be effective, the site will need to get a critical mass of people willing to do odd jobs, and it doesn't seem to quite be there yet. But the site is getting tons of publicity and seems to have momentum. It's such a perfect use for the Web, allowing people who have money but no time to find people who have time but no money.
