Why Can't Tech Companies Fix Health Care?

They certainly keep trying. Microsoft today announced HealthVault, a consumer site for storing health care information -- supposedly so your information can more efficiently move around the health care system.

Google has designs on the space. Ex-AOL chief Steve Case has Revolution. All sorts of big and little companies are hammering at the space. But the industry is still fundamentally broken and impervious to the kind of price/performance improvements that technology can bring to an industry. Wonder what it will take to make a serious dent in this mess.
