VMwhoa!
Stopped in at VMworld, going on this week in San Francisco. It's absolutely crazy. A few years ago, this company -- VMware -- couldn't have assembled 200 users in the same room. Now it's the hottest software company on the planet, and there are 11,000 people here at its annual conference. Here's a shot of one of the central VMware booths...
VMware has such fans, the conference even has a VMworld store so people can buy souvenirs. (Though, no, I didn't see any clothing that read "My Mommy went to VMworld and all I got was this stupid T-shirt.)
At an after-hours executive party last night, journalists from top publications around the world showed up -- a sign of the importance of VMware. CEO Diane Greene came by for an hour or so, and he seemed downright amazed at the attention she and her company are getting. Seriously, the last time I saw this kind of instant success was hanging around the YouTube guys in March 2006.
