National Geographic and Google Should Talk About This

Just a thought, here...

A story popped up today in the Sacramento Bee about why so many people save hundreds or thousands of back issues of National Geographic. It is a strange anamoly in these days of Web-based instant information and electronically stored back issues of just about everything.

Yet so many people keep National Geographic issues, there's a FAQ on the magazine's Web site that suggests throwing them out because you can't even donate them to libraries or sell them. The market is flooded.

This suggests a possibility. Google is gung-ho on its book-scanning project, trying to make all the world's information available on line. Maybe it's time Google did the same with National Geographic. Scan in every issue and make the stories searchable. Think of all the free storage space that would create in closets.
