Computer Makers Realize People Actually Like Stuff That Looks Cool

Dell is unveiling a new line of consumer computers today. It will include a laptop in flamingo pink.

As it turns out, this is not just about Dell getting in touch with its inner Floridian. Forrester Research just emailed me about a new report that starts out, "The consumer PC industry is entering the Age of Style, a time in which radical form factor innovations, increased aesthetic diversity, and consumer choice and personalization will determine which models, and which PC vendors, win or lose."

Last week, Lenovo told me that it, too, will soon roll out "head turning" consumer computers that will try to occupy some of the space that Apple now has all to itself.

If this trend is really happening, it will be welcome relief from the constant parade of silver, gray and black rectangles.
