Mrs. Murdoch Beats the Press
While Rupert Murdoch is off trying to win Dow Jones, his wife, Deng Wendi (as she's known in China, where first names go last), is getting some unwanted attention here in Beijing. It seems that journalist Eric Ellis had been commissioned to write an exhaustive profile of Mrs. Murdoch by Australia's Good Weekend publication - which happens to be owned by Fairfax Media which is, in turn, 7.5% owned by Murdoch's News Corp.
And, well, before the story got published, Good Weekend killed it.
But good tales are hard to spike. So by the end of this week, a Chinese language translation is supposed to be published in China's New Century Weekly magazine. Australia's The Monthly recently published it in English, but to see it you have to pay a hefty subscription fee.
The story doesn't seem to have any nuclear revelations - just paints Mrs. M as an ambitious woman who's probably not really after Rupert for his smoldering good looks. As if we didn't know that anyway.
