Choking on Cleantech

It's greentech, but is it cleantech? As venture capitalists light a fire under a potential alt-energy IPO boom, they're pumping plenty of money into ethanol. A recent study at Stanford University, which is just a morning jog away from the venture capital housing projects that line Menlo Park's Sand Hill Road, shows that 85% ethanol fuel spews out significantly more acetaldeyde and formaldehyde than does the everyday gasoline car engine. The study by atmospheric scientist Mark Z. Jacobson, reported in Science News (subscription only), says E85 could increase asthma, hospitalization and death by ozone exposure by 9% in Los Angeles and 4% nationwide. So far, I've not heard "death by ozone" uttered by any of the cleantech money men.
