The Market Flip: HP Up, Dell Down
One of the more fascinating aspects of covering technology is how quickly fortunes can change. Just a couple of years ago, Dell under CEO Kevin Rollins seemed like it could do no wrong and H-P under Carly Fiorina was as dysfunctional as the Go-Gos before their break-up.

Today, reports show that H-P is kicking Dell's butt in PCs, gaining market share as Dell loses. H-P is getting its act together under CEO Mark Hurd, while Michael Dell has resumed the controls at his company -- with, apparently, not much of a strategy for making profound changes there.
One thing to watch: Michael Dell's best talent might be his ability to find and hire excellent top-level managers, and Dell has been on a hiring tear -- most significantly snagging Ron Garriques from Motorola in Februray.
