iPod, the Monopoly

Yow! Outside of Microsoft's domination of PC operating systems, is there any category so dominated by one company as Apple in the "personal media player" space? Doubt it. By some measures, the iPod owns 76% of the market. Even more devastating, a survey out this week says that 82% of teenagers who own personal media players have an iPod. So the generation coming up is even MORE loyal to Apple.

Microsoft's Zune? It's dragging along with a few percentage points of market share, and doesn't even show up in the teen survey.

Remember when Steve Jobs used to feel like the heel on Microsoft's boot? The iPod's victory must feel sweet...
