Rush Hour: The War in Iraq, the War in Mexico, the War in Equities
Today's hot business topics, boiled down to a couple of arbitrary quotes, comments, and tweets:
On President Obama declaring an official end to the combat mission in Iraq, although 50,000 U.S. military personnel remain there in other capacities:
"What a con job. 50,000 troops and over 30,000 US civilian contractors will remain in Iraq. Not "combat" forces but "occupying" forces. Right. Plus, most of the troops "coming home" are actually being redeployed to other battle fields. BRING THEM ALL HOME!" —billp1, commenting at CNN.
"Hallelujah! And thank you President Obama. With McCain/thatidiotPalin we'd still be in Iraq and probably Iran as well. The President should be getting rave reviews for this, but of course not, because the media owns the message." —DeeAmbro, commenting at CNN.
On the capture of alleged Mexican drug kingpin Edgar Valdez Villarreal, also known as "The Barbie," because of his fair hair and blue eyes:
"I hope this guy gets sent to the U.S. for trial! I've been in a Mexican federal prison while doing missionary work in TJ. It was called the "little city". They sold tacos, smoothies and drinks right there in the prison. Families could live there with the inmates. Children were walking in and out with their backpacks going off to school. The drug lords had their own sections that they built with all the money they "earned". Plush surroundings including hot tubs. Right now "the Barbie" is calling his architect to see what's possible." —shaymeister, commenting at Fox News.
"Now lets see if they get Hector. Otherwise, they're just picking which guy takes over the cartel. Of course, that is what they're doing. Sitting here in Cuernavaca, I wonder how many bullets we'll hear tonight as the new fight for top dog begins." —drjaysonmd, commenting at Huffington Post.
On stocks ending a brutal August in which all three major U.S. indexes declined, paving the way for September—which usually is worse.
"Capitalism is finished!" —babyflop, commenting at MarketWatch.
"Not finished, just moved out of the U.S." —kanwsu, commenting at MarketWatch.
