Rush Hour: A Stem Cell Clash, An Economic Mash

Today's hot business topics, boiled down to a couple of arbitrary quotes, comments, and tweets:

On the Justice Department saying it will appeal a ruling by a federal judge that brougth stem cell research to a halt:

"I am tired of this. Every time this administration is told no they just look for ways to bypass the law. Just like most liberals who can't obey the law they look for loopholes and ways to circumvent the law. This reminds me a lot of a two or three year old when they are told NO. I thinks it is time for the Americans people to give our government a spanking by booting all these people out of office and going back to our founding fathers beliefs."—bulldoze24, commenting at Fox News.

"There are no utilitarian views that can justify the banning of stem-cell research, only spiritual arguments of the arbitrary "sacred" value of human embryos."—Peter Wang, commenting at NPR.

On the 27 percent decline in existing home sales, which triggered widespread stock market losses and more talk of a double dip recession:

"Right now the best thing the American people can do (as simple as it sounds) is to get your money right. Save your money, improve your credit score, rent instead of buying a house If you cannot afford one, etc. This will most likely have an adverse effect on the economy (double edged sword), but I can guarantee it will bulid up your confidence to the point where you will start buying again once you Get Your Money Right."—Shaun Moore, commenting at CNN.

"The fact is this is the new normal. Without a overvalued housing market and a overvalued stock market to fuel consumer spending this is what america looks like. Get used to it people"—hehateme, commenting at Business Insider.

On Wal-Mart recalling 380,000 pounds of possibly tainted Tyson Foods roast beef and ham, adding to anxiety created by an unrelated recall of more than 500,000 eggs:

"Here's the facts, we have the safest food system in the world. Absolutely miniscule numbers of people ever get sick from store purchased food. Far higher percentages get sick from home grown and processed food than do those from store purchased (look it up if you doubt me). Most deadly ilnesses come from produce and NOT meat."—chris-335678, commenting at MSNBC.

"Well let's see, we can't trust lunch meat, we can't trust hamburger, we can't trust eggs, we can't trust packaged salad vegetables, we can't trust any food stuffs imported from China, we can't trust foods imported from Mexico, .... Think it might be time to go back to the corner butcher shop, farmer's markets, and grow your own!!"—Paul-1359246, commenting at MSNBC.
