Mark Cuban's Newest Entertainment Venture
I'm pretty much interested in anything that Mark Cuban does in the entertainment industry, be it rethinking the theatrical business from the ground up, slamming together windows of distribution, or changing how back-end points are paid out by trading cash value for future profit participation. Hell, I'm even on board when he's says crazy stuff like the Internet is "dead and boring" to my Portfolio colleague Lloyd Grove. One thing I don't want to see, however, is a sweaty Mark Cuban shaking his groove thing on ABC's Dancing With the Stars, which is what Sports Illustrated reports he will be doing with ex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown, Wayne Newton and 90210's Jennie Garth (oh, Mark, didn't you learn your lesson with 2004's The Benefactor?):
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban will compete on "Dancing with the Stars," Sports Illustrated reported Sunday on its Web site, citing an unnamed source.Sports figures have done well in past seasons on the show, with Apolo Ohno and Emmitt Smith winning.
Former "Beverly Hills 90210" star Jennie Garth, ex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown and singer Wayne Newton also will be on the show, SI reported.
The show, which starts its next season Sept. 24 on ABC, pairs 10 celebrities with professional dancers. They perform each week, with viewers and judges voting off couples until one remains.
