Beckham's First Start and First GOOAALLLL!!!!!
I'm not the first to say it, but it played out like a scene from a sports movie. David Beckham had his first start last night for the L.A. Galaxy in the SuperLiga semifinals against MLS rival D.C. United. And in the 27th minute, he banged in his first goal for his new squad off a 26-yard free kick. You can check out his rocket of a shot below. Wow. Beautiful. Just a bullet into all left-side net. I could have done without the "Beckham can bend it" comment from the breathless announcer, but you have to check out the reaction shot of Victoria after her husband scores (or is it a lack-of-reaction shot?). Beckham also earned his first yellow card in the game (for fouling D.C.'s Jamie Moreno) and hit his first assist to Landon "Landycakes" Donovan, who scored on a breakaway in the 47th minute. The Galaxy will play Mexican club team Pachuca in the tournament final on Aug. 29th. The Beckham backlash may still be in effect, but if he keeps scoring, he'll be just fine here in L.A.
