Happy Birthday Mr. Hitchcock
No one does suspense (or psychosexual obsession, for that matter) better than Alfred Hitchcock, my favorite director of all time, who would have been 108 years old today (he passed away in 1980). I recently spent a vacation week in Santa Cruz, California, and while I was there, I was reminded that Hitchcock once owned a secluded mountain-top estate in nearby Scotts Valley. Only one Hitchcock film ever won an Oscar (1940's Rebecca), and he never took home the best director statue, but the man produced more classic thrillers than I can count. I'd put Vertigo or maybe even North By Northwest on top of the must-watch list, but CNN.com had another idea when they compiled a list of his top 10 films back in 1999.
