Pointing Out the Obvious: The Beginning of a Beckham Backlash

Her reality TV show Victoria Beckham: Coming to America was savaged by the critics (the New York Post called it "an orgy of self-indulgence" and described her as "vapid and condescending.") Ratings wise, it was less watched than a re-run of Wife Swap. Is it just me, or is anyone else feeling the Beckham backlash here? Someone needs to tell the Posh and Becks that while Americans love their celebrities, they love to hate them even more (you'd think they would have learned this lesson in England). If I were David, I would tape up that swollen left ankle, suit up in my new uniform, hobble over to the pitch and play through the pain this Saturday when his Los Angeles Galaxy faces off in an exhibition match against Chelsea. Now is the time to show you're worth that $250 million. And I have a feeling he's going to need all the support he can get.

For those of you who missed Victoria's show, it's playing on NBC again on Thursday. Or you can just watch it online.
