Shrek Could Finally Get the Hook
I tend to believe that DreamWorks will keep making Shrek movies as long as they can sell movie tickets and fast food with the big goofy green guy. But it looks as if the franchise has an expiration date and the fifth installment will be the last, according to Jeffrey Katzenberg, who recently attended the Allen & Co. Media Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho. From Bloomberg:
"Shrek the Third," which cost $160 million to make, has taken in $643.6 million in worldwide ticket sales since its May 18 release, according to Burbank-based Box Office Mojo.
The "Shrek" films have also been important for Viacom Inc.'s Paramount film studio, which distributes DreamWorks' films, Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone told reporters at the Allen & Co. event. Paramount will make about $80 million on "Shrek the Third," he said.
A fourth Shrek will be released in 2010.
