Hollywood: Holding Out For A Hero--Again

Does anybody understand why kids today love musicals so much? If you do, please let me know. It's a trend that's baffled me for a while. I get liking music. And I get liking dancing. But the two together are hardly ball-and-socket to me when it comes to movies. A good friend of mine has an 11-year-old daughter, who, after watching High School Musical, has become obsessed with West Side Story. But I guess the "why" isn't that important as the phenomena is obviously extant. So it comes as no surprise that Paramount is currently developing 1984's Footloose into a movie musical for High School Musical star Zac Efron, who in is talks to play the rebel-with-a-cause Ren McCormack (originally played by Kevin Bacon) in a town where dancing has been banned. A musical adapted from the movie has had a reasonably successful run and gives reason to believe that auds both young and old will get into this new project. Efron can also be seen New Line's Hairspray remake which opens Friday.
