Paramount Gets Official With Cloverfield and Asks Us to Drink the Slusho
So Paramount finally got smart and put the official Cloverfield trailer online and now people can stop watching that crappy footage on YouTube shot on a shaky hand-held camcorder. And mysterious links are popping up for the Lovercraftian movie all over. Not only is there www.1-18-08.com (which features two pictures and nothing else), but also the whole Ethan Haas was right/wrong debate. There's also www.parasitemovie.com (which a kindly Portfolio reader named Sheila hipped us to) which seems to be changing its material. It used to have the puzzle that you can find on the Ethan Haas was right site. Now it's linking to the two photos, what seems to be a bogus ad for some outdoor games, and has a count down for something unknown. Ah, that J.J. Abrams. So crafty! If you want more about this, or have the time/inclination to try and connect the dots yourself, TrailerSpy claims to have some insight from a Cloverfield insider, J.J. Abrams talks to Harry Knowles at AICN about sites yet undiscovered and Matt Dentler does some more digging into Ethan Haas and the significance of the Japanese drink Slusho.
And for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, USA Today pulls back the camera on the unique marketing campaign.
