The Mystery of J.J. Abrams' As-Yet-Untitled Trailer
So a friend of mine was freaking out about this J.J. Abrams trailer that played before Transformers this weekend. What's it for? There's no title for the movie (ah, clever way to build that anticipation and word-of-mouth). But, of course, you can find the trailer on YouTube. The embedded video is below and I've included a link to a better version. At first I thought maybe it was for his upcoming Star Trek installment (Abrams' Alias writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci wrote Transformers and the new Trek). But others are pretty certain that it's for a monster movie called Cloverfield, which Abrams is producing, and is apparently being shot all The Blair Witch Project style with home video cameras. If that's the case, they've even taken a page from Blair Witch's ground-breaking marketing campaign. John Hegeman would be proud. Oh, and I just saw that Cinematical has a bit about a sneaky teaser website for the film and other sites here. Trippy stuff. Remember, this is coming from the guy who created Lost. Let the viral marketing begin.
