Manhunt 2: Actually A Testicle-Ripping Good Time
I guess I didn't quite comprehend just how gory Take Two and Rockstar's new stealth video game Manhunt 2 was when I wrote about it's distribution being suspended and it's ban in the UK and Ireland. From what I understand, it makes Eli Roth's movie Hostel II look like Muppets Take Manhattan. To wit: According to game site IGN.com (which I linked to through Slate), the game play includes taking a pair of pliers to clamp on a enemy's testicles and literally ripping them from his body while the blood sprays. Now, if that's not enough, imagine playing it on Nintendo Wii, where you actually simulate the gesture while holding the Wii remote and Nunchuck in your hands. There's no way I'm buying the publisher's agrument that this game is no more violent than horror movies.
By the way, the American Medical Assn. has scaled back on proposal to declare excessive video-game playing a mental disorder akin to pathological gambling, saying the issue needed more study.
