Clinton Support Grows: Spielberg Backs Her for Prez

More proof that Hillary Clinton is gathering steam in Hollywood; director Steven Spielberg is endorsing her bid for presidency because of her experience and strength. "I've taken the time to familiarize myself with the impressive field of Democratic candidates and am convinced that Hillary Clinton is the most qualified candidate to lead us from her first day in the White House," Spielberg said in a statement posted on Clinton's website. "Hillary is a strong leader and is respected the world over. As president, she will bring America back together, rebuild our prestige abroad and ensure our protection here at home."

Spielberg co-hosted a party for Clinton with television mogul Haim Saban at New Corp's President Peter Chernin's house about two weeks ago that raised about $850,000. Initially, many thought Spielberg would be backing Barack Obama, who is being endorsed by Spielberg's DreamWorks' partners David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg. Geffen offered a strongly worded indictment of Clinton when talking to Maureen Dowd in the New York Times this past February (he called her "polarizing" and "overproduced and overscripted"), after hosting an Obama event (with Katzenberg and Spielberg) that raised more than $1 million. Speaking of Obama, he was just in LA on Monday and Tuesday for more fundraising. Clinton and John Edwards are both scheduled to return later this month.
